Out Now! - Toys for Boys by K D Grace (@kd_grace)

Please welcome Kd Grace to my blog today with her new novella TOYS FOR BOYS. I've had the pleasure of reading this quirky, sexy M/M story set in the UK and I have to say it's absolutely fabulous. If you enjoy guys who are hot for each other and an author who gets a cameo role, then don't miss it....

Inspiration On the Hoof:

One of the best holidays I ever had was a fourteen-day192 mile walk across England on the Wainwright Coast to Coast Path. The path begins at St. Bee’s Head, on the Irish Sea. It crosses the entire Lake District, then the Yorkshire Dales and finally the North York Moors, finishing at Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea. It was one of the hardest, most inspiring, most spectacular things I’d ever done. I don’t mind saying there were times I wasn’t sure I could finish it and there were times when I was a little bit scared, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Doing it again is exactly what I did when I wrote Toys for Boys. While Doc and Will’s adventure unfolded in my imagination, I got to live the whole experience of that wonderful walk over again while at the same time adding a few challenges and unexpected surprises for my boys.

High tech meets low tech in a wilderness adventure that sizzles.

Toys for Boys Blurb:

Alpha nerd Will Charles teams up with Caridoc ‘Doc’ Jones in a coast to coast walk across England reviewing outdoor gift suggestions for the Christmas edition of Toys for Boys—an online magazine dedicated to the latest gadgets to tickle a man’s fancy. Will is recording their adventures with the latest smart phone technology. Doc is reviewing the latest outdoor gear. The two quickly discover the great outdoors provides even better toys for boys, toys best shared al fresco, toys that, in spite of Will’s great camera work, will never be reviewed in Toys for Boys.

Note: Toys for Boys has been previously published as part of the Brit Boys: With Toys boxed set.

Excerpt:

“We’re not going to make Ennerdale tonight,” Doc yelled into the wind.
Will’s answer was incoherent, an incoherence that wasn’t entirely because the wind was interfering with Doc’s hearing. They’d already got lost once and had fought their way back to the trail. Doc was fucking freezing, but he had spent enough time outdoors in bad weather to push his body way further than most people could. No matter how fit Will was, Doc recognised the signs of hypothermia when he saw them. They had to get out of the weather and get warm.
They lost the trail twice more before Doc made the executive decision to set up a tent in the first spot halfway flat. To his surprise it had been the damn urBrain that had saved the day. Will had downloaded detailed, interactive OS maps, but in his condition, Doc doubted if he could read his own name in bold letters, let alone the contours of a map. He’d pried the device, safe from the weather in its own little waterproof sheath, from Will’s icy hands and, with the light from the screen, he was able to find a wooded area relatively flat and as shielded from the weather as they were likely to get. The rain turned to hail and the Arctic wind made it feel like bird shot against all bits of exposed skin as Doc struggled to set up the tent. He’d shoved another energy bar at Will, and when he’d only stood there looking at it, Doc had opened it and half crammed it down his throat before he went back to work on shelter, desperate to get Will out of the weather.
Once the tent was secure, he chucked the bags inside, then grabbed Will by the collar and dragged him into the tight little space.
The energy bar must have helped. Will seemed coherent enough. “I can’t feel my hands,” he said, battling to get his sleeping bag out of its waterproof sack.
“Give me that,” Doc said through chattering teeth. “Let me do it. My hands aren’t all delicate and dainty like yours.”
“Would you look at that?” Will said as Doc grabbed the bag. “Amazingly, my middle finger works just fine.” He flipped him off.
“So does your smart mouth.” Without thinking, Doc zipped the two bags together.
“What are you doing?” Will was suddenly serious.
“You’re hypothermic. Get your wet clothes off and get into the bag.”
“Oh. Right.” But Will could no more manage the buttons and zippers on his clothing than he could his sleeping bag.
This time when Doc shoved his hands away and pushed the waterproof jacket off his shoulders, Will only watched, eyes focussed on the process as though it were something totally new to him. Doc cursed the fiddly buttons on the man’s shirt, his own hands none too agile from the cold and wet and the fact that he was undressing Will fucking Charles, about whom he’d been having less than pristine thoughts since his first view of the man’s arse. Will fucking Charles with whom he was about to cuddle down into a sleeping bag butt naked, never mind that it was with good reason.
Will sucked in a harsh breath. “Your damned hands are like ice cubes, Woodsy.”
“Oh shut it, William, or I’ll kick your arse outside and make you sleep in the rain.”
“Fucking like to see you try.” Will’s teeth were chattering hard, and his whole body trembling from the cold as Doc worried the shorts down over his commando bum and found himself face to cock, which made the blighter burst into hysterical laughter. “Have we ulterior motives, Mr Jones? Where the hell’s urBrain? I have to get this on camera.”
“Want a selfie of your cock, do you, you shivering bastard?” Doc turned his attention to the walking boots, which had stopped all progress of getting the man naked. Focussing on something other than the naked, very vulnerable body of Will fucking Charles helped clear his mind. He was too cold, too tired to get hard over what was essentially a matter of life and death, he told himself. Surely!
Once the boots were dispensed with, he shoved the man into the sleeping bag and went about the awkward business of stripping himself.
“Where the hell is the urBrain when I need it?” Will chuckled between chattering teeth.
“You point that thing at me, and I’ll shove it up your arse.” Doc’s own teeth sounded like a couple of spastic tap dancers had been turned loose in his mouth.
“Now that’s a function I didn’t find in the instruction manual,” Will replied.
What started out as ribald comments on the shrivelling effect of the cold on male tender bits dwindled to nothing more than the sound of convulsive shivering. By the time Doc had shed the last of his clothes and shoved his way down next to Will, he was seriously worried. It took all his strength, which wasn’t a helluva lot at that moment, to pull the bloke into his arms and hold him close enough to share body heat, what little there was of it. The worry subsided a bit when Will threw his arms around his neck and gave a harsh chuckle against his throat. “This was seriously worth getting hypothermic for. Pity I’m too fucking tired to appreciate it.”
Though Doc agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment, his focus was on getting Will warm. Then he’d get out the backpacking stove and fix them something hot. That was the last thing he remembered, that and the feel of Will’s body shivering against him, in the tent redolent with the male scent of core heat and wet gear, all overlaid by the icy metal smell of the fells in a storm.

The scent of freshly soaked grass hit her. The air was damp and warm, and caressed her nostrils and her legs. After locking the door, she stuck to the side of the house, walking on pavers rather than gravel.
“Hey.”
A strong arm circled her waist and she was pulled into a shadowed recess.
“Harper,” she gasped, setting her hand on his chest as he backed her against the wall.
He smiled down at her, the dim light only serving to make him look more irresistibly roguish.
“You shouldn’t be here?” she said, despite the fact she was thoroughly glad he was.
“Sure I should. I came to get my cash from your pa.”
“That was hours ago.”
“Yeah, I didn’t think he’d take kindly to me taking his sexy daughter and his money.”
“You’re right there.” She slipped her hands upwards, over his shoulders to his neck. His hair was tied back and his skin soft until she reached the sprinkle of stubble that peppered his jawline. “And where are you planning on taking me?”
“To my home.” He tipped his head a little. “I’ve seen yours, only right you see mine to.”
“Your home in Bowton or in Ireland?”
“It’s a fair trek to Ballymena from here.”
“Ballymena? Isn’t that near Belfast?”
“Just north. Where I was born.”
“But not raised.”
“Nope, raised on the road. Never been in one place for long.”
“And that suited you?”
“Always has, always will.” He lowered his head and swept his lips over hers.
She sighed and melted toward him. The illicitness of their encounter made it all the more sexy. They were wrong together, but so damn right it was impossible to resist.
He slipped his hands from her waist to her butt and pulled her closer, groaning a little as he did so. The kiss deepened, he squeezed her ass cheeks.
Her pussy clenched, and her belly tightened. How far could they go here? With her parents so close.
He lifted his head, breaking the kiss. He was breathing fast.
“In the pool,” she whispered. “What would you have done if my father hadn’t come home?”
He grinned. “Don’t you know?”
She shook her head and studied the way his eyes were glinting.
“I’d have made you come,” he said, his lips hovering over hers, their breath mixing. “I’d have made you come so hard you’d never have been the same again.”
Her knees weakened. A heated flush travelled through her body. It was all she could do not to whimper with longing. “I would have liked that.”
“Yeah, you would have. A lot.”
God, he was so cocky. So damn self-assured. It should have her rolling her eyes but far from it. Carmel couldn’t remember ever feeling so turned on by a guy. She was desperate for a hard orgasm the would mean she was never the same again.
And Harper was the one to deliver. Of that she was sure.

In Cold Blood by Naomi Clark

Hi there! Thanks for having me today and letting me share a bit about my new release, IN COLD BLOOD. This is a spin-off from my Urban Wolf series, set in the same world but featuring new characters. My goal with every entry in the Urban Wolf series is to open the world up a little bit more. SILVER KISS gives us a good, solid starting point with werewolves. BLOOD HUNT introduces vampires. PHANTON FEARS teases the idea of ghosts, and COLD NIGHT MOON gives us fae creatures (or one, at any rate). With IN COLD BLOOD, my idea was that, well, someone had to be noticing all these weird and wonderful creepy beasties. And someone would be keeping notes...This will tie directly into the plot of the next Urban Wolf book, which will take us back to Ayla and Shannon. The circle of life, etc.

IN COLD BLOOD is the first of a planned trilogy about Phoebe, Aisling, and the Luporum. I already have book 2 mostly planned out (in my head, anyway), but my aim is write that Ayla and Shannon book first. So if you enjoy IN COLD BLOOD, rest assured that there'll be more from my socially awkward werewolves in love - and the Urban Wolf series in general! - in the future :) Happy reading!

You can find the complete Urban Wolf series, in reading order, at my blog.

Blurb
Phoebe Fairley wanted to be a librarian. Somehow, she’s become a vampire hunter. Women are dying across the country and the police are baffled. Phoebe’s just supposed to be gathering information on the deaths, but as the body count mounts, she can’t help but break the rules and get involved. She knows what the killer is—and catching and containing it is vital. If she can persuade the police to believe her, and keep her secretive bosses happy, she stands a chance of capturing a very real, very deadly vampire. Not bad for a werewolf who can’t shapeshift.

Aisling is happy living as a feral wolf. She’s got no time for human affairs, until a mysterious creature attacks her and leaves her in human hands. Now, if she wants her life back, she’ll have to join Phoebe’s hunt. There are just a couple of snags. One, she hates humans. And two, she’s falling hard for Phoebe. With a monster to catch and her own past to protect, will Aisling trust her head or her heart?

Excerpt

The scene inside the barn was surreal. Two big floodlights overhead lit the barn in glaring white. Half the huge space was taken up with sheep, penned off from the drama but still hysterically bleating and milling together. A grizzled man in a tattered dressing gown and Wellington boots – surely the farmer – leaned into the pen, talking non-stop to the frightened animals. Bales of hay were piled high around the rest of the barn, looking to Phoebe like they might come toppling down any second. They formed a rough arena for the main drama. Two more men held down a naked woman. She thrashed in their grip, tossing her matted red hair and snarling with a viciousness that made Phoebe’s wolf cower. This was their victim, this mad, wild thing?
Spalding hurried over to the farmer and Gibbs ran to the paramedics. They had to be wolves, from the strength they were displaying, but the woman was making them work to keep her still. Phoebe hesitated before following Gibbs – at a distance. Observe, Spalding had said. That was fine. Observing was all she was meant to do. The question was, what exactly was she seeing? The victim of a vampire attack or a feral wolf gone mad? She couldn’t help but lean towards the latter. Perhaps the woman thought the sheep would be easy pickings, but something had gone wrong. Maybe she’d been startled by the farmer or a guard dog. Phoebe had noticed a kennel outside the barn, although there was no sign of a dog now.
As she got closer, she saw the woman’s hands and feet were caked in mud, and there were thin red scratches all over her pale skin. Dried blood on her chest, too, although her endless thrashing made it hard to see where the original wound was. She stopped a few feet away, watching as Gibbs crouched down before the woman and – daringly, Phoebe thought – gripped her chin firmly. She was surprised he didn’t get his fingers bitten off.
The woman growled but couldn’t pull free of Gibbs’ hold. He growled right back, with a force and venom that made Phoebe quake. Did they teach that in training?
For a minute, the pair seemed locked in battle, the woman struggling against all three men in vain while she snarled at Gibbs. He didn’t flinch or loosen his grip, and kept his own domineering growl rumbling on, rising in pitch. The sheep grew more frantic and both the farmer and Spalding yelled at them with a mixture of anger and desperation. Phoebe felt battered, all the noise and tumultuous emotion like an assault. She wanted to run. She forced herself to stay, watching as Gibbs tried to inflict his will on the woman.
As much as pop culture got muddled with myth, some things were always true, just as much for wolves as humans. Some people were simply more dominant than others. Gibbs’ laid-back, clownish persona was all gone now as he pinned the woman down with both his body and his eyes. Phoebe would have caved already, if she’d even had it in her to resist. The woman, whatever her mental state might be, was not so easily dominated. But after what felt like an age, she slumped, stopped fighting, and went still.

About the Author
Naomi likes writing, perfume, fancy tea, and unfathomable monsters from the dark spaces between the stars, not necessarily in that order. She has been writing stories ever since she learned how to write, but is still trying to master the art of biography writing. When she's not dealing with werewolves, demons, or sea monsters, she's hanging out with her cat and probably watching a documentary about Bigfoot. If the cat isn't available, she's with her fiancé watching cookery shows and silently plotting her next book.
